Vrbo has no crypto checkout, and a host who asks for crypto outside Vrbo breaks its rules. Here is what Vrbo allows, the deposits a host may ask for, and how to pay a stay in crypto with a hotel instead.

**Quick answer — Does Vrbo accept crypto?**

No. We found no crypto payment method on Vrbo on October 12, 2026. Its help pages name Visa, Mastercard and American Express, and we found no Vrbo gift card sold for crypto. Row of our [crypto acceptance index](https://staysats.com/hotel-crypto-acceptance-index/). Vrbo's payment help page returned an error on October 12, 2026; we read it as a search extract and checked Vrbo's policy pages directly.

## Can I pay for a Vrbo rental with bitcoin or USDT?

No. On October 12, 2026, we found no crypto payment method on Vrbo. A search extract of its help page "Book online and pay securely" names Visa, Mastercard and American Express for online bookings. The page itself returned an error when we opened it, so this row rests on that extract and on our searches.

Vrbo belongs to Expedia Group. The group's main site, Expedia, accepted bitcoin from 2014 to 2018 for hotels only; Vrbo never offered it as far as we found. See [does Expedia accept crypto?](https://staysats.com/does/expedia-accept-crypto/)

Airbnb, the other large home-rental site, takes no crypto either: see [Airbnb and crypto payments](https://staysats.com/does/airbnb-accept-crypto/). Neither does [Booking.com](https://staysats.com/does/booking-com-accept-crypto/).

## What if a Vrbo host asks to be paid in crypto?

Say no and contact Vrbo. Its Off-Platform Booking Policy, which covers every Expedia Group brand, forbids asking, encouraging or agreeing to move a reservation or a payment off the platform. It also forbids discounts offered in exchange for paying off-platform. Vrbo hosts may not add links, QR codes or contact details meant to move guests away from Vrbo. They may not message guests outside Vrbo before a booking is confirmed.

The consequence for you is concrete: off-platform bookings are not eligible for Vrbo's benefits and support. A crypto transfer to a host can't be reversed, so you would have no way to get it back through Vrbo.

## Which deposits can a Vrbo host ask for?

One of three, under Vrbo's Damage Deposit Policy:

1. **A payment card on file.**
2. **An upfront refundable damage deposit.** A host may collect it directly only if the listing clearly says so.
3. **Property damage protection**, bought by the guest.

The deposit covers damage by the guest, invited people or pets, such as broken furniture or extra cleaning. It can't be used for optional services, extra use of utilities or returning lost items. A deposit asked in crypto, outside these rules, is a warning sign.

## Can I use a crypto card on Vrbo?

It may work, if the card runs on Visa, Mastercard or American Express. A card funded from crypto converts your coins when you pay, so Vrbo sees a normal card payment.

Two points matter for rentals. A host may keep your card on file for damage, so the card must stay valid until after your stay. And a refund after a cancellation goes back to the card in normal money, not in crypto. Card issuers add conversion costs and usually check your ID. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules.

## What can I book with crypto instead of a Vrbo home?

A hotel room, paid in crypto with **StaySats**. We sell hotel bookings only, not private homes. For families or groups, the search form lets you set the number of rooms and guests. If you want a kitchen, look for aparthotels or rooms with a kitchenette in the results; availability depends on the city and dates.

You pay from a balance topped up from $25 in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. The total is held at checkout. We then book the room on request, and your balance is charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued. There is no host and no off-platform request: the booking and the payment stay on StaySats. ## Vrbo and crypto: questions

### Will Vrbo accept crypto?

We found no announcement as of October 12, 2026, and no crypto method in its help pages. Vrbo is part of Expedia Group, which dropped bitcoin on Expedia in 2018. We check the row every month in our [acceptance index](https://staysats.com/hotel-crypto-acceptance-index/) and update it when Vrbo publishes a change.

### Is it safe to pay a Vrbo host in USDT?

No. Vrbo's Off-Platform Booking Policy forbids moving a reservation or its payment off Vrbo, and off-platform bookings lose Vrbo's benefits and support. A USDT transfer can't be reversed. If a host insists on crypto, report the listing to Vrbo support.

### Can I buy a Vrbo gift card with bitcoin?

We found none on October 12, 2026. The crypto gift card reseller we checked sells Airbnb and Hotels.com cards, and a Global Hotel Card booked on its own website, globalhotelcard.com. None of these pays a booking on vrbo.com. A crypto card is the only route we found.

### How long does Vrbo keep a damage deposit?

It depends on the host's settings, and Vrbo's help pages give different delays. Under Vrbo's policy, the deposit covers guest damage only, and disputes go through VrboCare or customer support. A host may collect a deposit directly only if the listing clearly says so.

### Does StaySats rent vacation homes?

No. StaySats sells hotel bookings only. For a kitchen, look for aparthotels or rooms with a kitchenette in the results; what you find depends on the city and dates. Each booking is a single travel service, and the hotel checks your ID at check-in, as local law requires.

### What happens to my crypto if a StaySats hotel cancels?

If the hotel can't host you, you get 100% of the stay back. You choose USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit. If the hotel never confirms, the held amount is released to your balance at once. [Refunds](https://staysats.com/refunds/).

> **Disclosure** We sell hotel bookings paid in crypto. Our offer is included and marked. Vrbo's rules on this page are quoted from its own policy pages. Written by the StaySats research desk (TravelGoat LLC). Named reviewers will be listed here when appointed.
