Read the travel alert first: strikes on the UAE began on February 28, 2026, and flights can still be cancelled. Below are the 2024 UAE rule on paying in crypto, the taxes and the ID rules.

> **Travel disruption in Dubai and the UAE (checked October 12, 2026)** Iranian strikes on Gulf states halted flights at Dubai's two airports on February 28, 2026. Limited flights restarted on March 2. The UK Foreign Office reports strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran across the region since July 8, 2026. It tells travellers to expect possible flight cancellations and airspace closures (page updated July 24, 2026). The US State Department rates the UAE Level 3, "Reconsider travel" (advisory of August 29, 2026). Read both pages before you book: UK FCDO travel advice · US travel advisory. What we cover: if the hotel can't host you, you get 100% of the stay back. You choose USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit. See refunds. What we don't cover: flights, transfers and visas, because we sell hotel stays only. If you cancel yourself, the rate rules apply: a non-refundable rate returns nothing. We review this box every month.

**Quick answer — Can I pay for a Dubai hotel with crypto?**

Only through a booking made online before the trip. Under a 2024 UAE central bank rule, shops may accept crypto only as a licensed dirham token. With **StaySats**, you pay us in crypto, and we pay the hotel in dirhams. The stay is held, not charged, until the hotel confirms. Read the travel alert above before you book.

## What if my flight is cancelled after I book?

Your hotel booking stays valid if the hotel can still host you. We sell hotel stays only, so a cancelled flight is a matter for your airline. Cancelling the hotel then follows the rate rules. A refundable rate comes back as balance credit, minus any hotel penalty. A non-refundable rate returns nothing.

While the alert stands, book the hotel only once your flight is firm. Treat every rate as non-refundable until the hotel confirms its cancellation rules with your booking. If the hotel itself can't host you, the refund in USDT or USDC applies: see [refunds](https://staysats.com/refunds/).

## Do hotels in Dubai accept crypto at the desk?

Very few, and a 2024 rule now limits it. BTC Map lists 10 places within 25 km of central Dubai, 2 of them hotels, and 5 verified since 2025 (October 12, 2026). A listing is not proof that a place accepts crypto today.

Press articles in 2022 named Palazzo Versace Dubai. From September 7, 2022, its guests could pay in bitcoin through the Binance app, per Bitcoin Magazine. On October 12, 2026, the hotel's own website did not mention crypto: see [its entry in our index](https://staysats.com/does/palazzo-versace-dubai-accept-crypto/). With StaySats, the hotel never handles crypto: you pay us, and the hotel receives a normal booking paid in dirhams.

## Is paying in crypto legal in the UAE?

Restricted, under the Payment Token Services Regulation of the Central Bank of the UAE, in force since August 31, 2024. It lets a shop accept crypto only as a licensed dirham payment token. Bitcoin, Ether and US dollar stablecoins such as USDT are not allowed for paying goods and services. The rule does not apply in the financial free zones, such as the DIFC in Dubai.

Booking with StaySats is different: you pay us online in crypto before the trip, and we pay the hotel in dirhams. This is information, not legal advice. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules.

## What is added to the bill in Dubai?

Besides the room rate, expect two official charges. The **Tourism Dirham** is AED 7 to 20 per room per night, depending on the hotel category, and it stops after 30 consecutive nights. It is charged per room, not per guest. On May 21, 2026, Dubai announced that hotels registered with its tourism department could stop collecting it, for a period not yet dated. The UAE also applies **5% VAT**.

On StaySats, VAT is part of the hotel's price, and we confirm the final total, taxes included, before you are charged. When the hotel collects a fee itself, such as the Tourism Dirham, it is confirmed with your booking. Extras, parking and late check-out are paid to the hotel.

## Will the hotel ask for my passport or a deposit?

Yes for ID. Dubai hotels scan a passport, or an Emirates ID for UAE residents, when you check in. Since late 2025, the Department of Economy and Tourism has offered a one-time digital registration through approved apps. A guest uploads the document once, and later stays need only a face check (Gulf News, December 2025).

A deposit is the hotel's own policy. Many hotels hold an amount on a card, or take cash, for extras, even when the room is prepaid. StaySats sends the hotel only the lead guest's name. Read [check-in without a credit card](https://staysats.com/check-in-without-credit-card/) if you travel without one.

## Search hotels in Dubai

Search hotels: https://staysats.com/app/hotels/search?q=Dubai&city=dubai

Live prices in USD for the whole stay; taxes and fees are included when the hotel publishes them. Bookings are made on request: nothing is charged until the hotel confirmation number is issued, and a higher total needs your agreement.

## What do the 2025 visitor figures show?

They describe the year before the strikes. Dubai received 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025, according to the Dubai Media Office. December 2025 was the first month above 2 million visitors (2.04 million). Hotel occupancy averaged 80.7% over 2025, up from 78.2% in 2024.

These figures were published on February 9, 2026, before flights were halted on February 28. They do not show the effect of the conflict, and we publish no 2026 figure.

## Held, not charged

1. **Your balance is held at checkout** — The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.
2. **We book the room for you** — Bookings are made on request: we book the room with the hotel and confirm the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept the new total or the amount is released.
3. **Charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued** — Your balance is charged when the hotel confirmation number is issued. If we can't confirm the booking in time, the full amount is released to your balance.

If the total changes before the hotel confirms, you see the new total and choose: accept it, or have the amount released. Nothing extra is ever taken without your agreement.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to travel to Dubai now?

We can't judge that, so we point to official advice. On October 12, 2026, the US State Department rated the UAE Level 3, "Reconsider travel", in an advisory of August 29, 2026. The UK Foreign Office warned of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures. Check both pages again just before you travel.

### Can I pay for a Dubai hotel with USDT?

Yes, through StaySats. Top up your balance with USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20). We pay the hotel in dirhams, so it does not need to accept USDT. Send USDT only on the network shown on the payment page, and read the travel alert first. [TRC-20 or ERC-20?](https://staysats.com/usdt-trc20-or-erc20-for-hotels/)

### Is the Tourism Dirham included in the price?

It depends on the rate. When the hotel collects the Tourism Dirham at the desk, it is confirmed with your StaySats booking. You pay it to the hotel in dirhams or by card. It ranges from AED 7 to 20 per room per night, by hotel category, and stops after 30 consecutive nights.

### Which Dubai airport is closer to the hotels?

Dubai International (DXB): about 11 km from Burj Khalifa in a straight line, with Red Line metro stations at Terminals 1 and 3. Al Maktoum International (DWC) is about 35 km from Burj Khalifa. Flights to both airports were halted in early 2026, so check your flight with the airline.

### Do I need a credit card at check-in in Dubai?

Often, yes, or a cash deposit. Your room and the taxes in the confirmed total are prepaid. Many Dubai hotels still hold an amount for extras, such as the minibar or room service. Without a card, message the hotel before you arrive and ask whether it accepts a cash deposit.

### Can I book a Dubai hotel for someone else?

Yes. Enter the name of the person who will check in as the lead guest: the hotel checks that person's passport or Emirates ID on arrival. StaySats does not ask for anyone's ID. The guest may still need a card or cash for the deposit.

### Does any Dubai hotel accept bitcoin directly?

We found none confirmed on an official page as of October 2026. In September 2022, the press reported that Palazzo Versace Dubai took bitcoin through the Binance app. Its website did not mention crypto on October 12, 2026, and a 2024 central bank rule now limits shop payments to licensed dirham tokens.
