Quick answer
Does Airbnb accept crypto?
No. As of October 12, 2026, Airbnb's payment methods include cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and local methods, but no coin. Three workarounds exist: an Airbnb gift card bought with crypto, a crypto debit card, or a hotel paid in crypto. StaySats sells hotels, not homes; the total is held, not charged, until the hotel confirms.

Does Airbnb accept bitcoin, USDT or other crypto in 2026?
No. On October 12, 2026, Airbnb's help article "Payment methods accepted" listed cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Residents of the USA and Canada can also use Klarna. It also listed local options by country, such as Pix in Brazil, UPI in India and iDEAL in the Netherlands. Bitcoin, USDT, USDC and other coins are not on the list.
The page gives a list for each country, so your checkout may show slightly different options. None of the country lists names a cryptocurrency.
Has Airbnb ever planned to accept crypto?
It has talked about it, but it has not launched it. In January 2022, Airbnb's CEO Brian Chesky asked users on Twitter what the company should build next. He then wrote that crypto payments were the top request among about 4,000 suggestions, according to Decrypt.
More than four years later, crypto is still not an Airbnb payment method. Treat any article that says "Airbnb now accepts bitcoin" as out of date unless it links to an Airbnb page.
Which workaround: gift card, crypto card or hotel?
Same rows for the 3 workarounds, as of October 2026. We sell hotel bookings paid in crypto: our option is marked "ours".

|---|---|---|---|
| Books an Airbnb home | Yes | Yes | No: hotels only, including aparthotels when listed |
| Who can use it | U.S. card: U.S. residents with a U.S. payment method; country cards for some European residents | Anyone the card issuer accepts | Guests booking hotels where we sell; not in sanctioned countries; hotels in Spain not yet |
| Stays of 28 nights or more | Excluded, per the reseller's terms | Airbnb's normal rules | No gift card rule; the hotel's rates decide |
| Identity check | Airbnb's check when you book | Airbnb's check, plus the card issuer's ID check | No ID upload at checkout; the hotel checks ID at check-in |
| When your crypto is spent | When you buy the card | When you pay | Held at checkout; booked on request and charged when the hotel confirmation number is issued |
| Extra cost | $0.26 per $25 card, plus the network fee | The card issuer's conversion fee | The network fee of your top-up; the final total is confirmed with the hotel before you are charged |
| If the host or hotel cancels | Airbnb's rules; the money stays inside Airbnb | Refund to the card, in normal money | 100% back in USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit |

Workaround 1: how do I pay for Airbnb with a gift card bought with crypto?
This route books any Airbnb home, if you meet the card's conditions.
Check that you qualify
The U.S. card is for people who live in the U.S. and hold a payment method issued in the U.S. Some European countries have their own card for their residents.
Buy the card with crypto
Pick an amount at a crypto gift card reseller and pay in BTC, USDT, USDC or another coin it lists. Fixed amounts go from $25 to $500.
Add it to your Airbnb account
Redeem the code as gift credit in your Airbnb account. The balance does not expire and can't be moved to another account.
Book and pay the rest
At checkout the gift credit pays first. If the stay costs more, you pay the difference with another payment method.
Who can use the Airbnb gift card route?
Airbnb sees a gift card balance, not crypto. Its U.S. terms say the balance pays for accommodations, experiences or services. Three groups of travellers hit its limits:
- Non-residents of the U.S. U.S. cards are only for people who live in the U.S., with a payment method issued there. Country cards exist for some European residents, such as a Portugal card for accounts and payment methods registered in Portugal.
- Monthly stays. The reseller's copy of the terms excludes reservations of 28 nights or longer. Airbnb's own U.S. terms page does not state this limit, so check at checkout before you buy.
- Large bookings. Airbnb may limit you to 9 cards redeemed per day. At the largest fixed amount of $500, that makes $4,500 per day.
The balance has no cash value and can't be moved to another Airbnb account. If your plans change, the money stays on your account. Full comparison: gift cards or a hotel booked in crypto.
Workaround 2: can I use a crypto debit card on Airbnb?
Often yes, because Airbnb sees a normal Visa or Mastercard. A crypto card sells your coins at the moment of payment, so the host is paid as usual. Airbnb lists Visa, Mastercard, Amex and JCB, and debit cards that can be processed as credit cards.
Compare cards on four points before you rely on one:
- Debit or prepaid. Some services refuse prepaid cards. Airbnb says Klarna, for example, does not accept them.
- Conversion. Coins are converted to the card currency, then maybe to the listing's currency. Each step can cost a fee.
- Refunds. A cancelled stay is refunded to the card in normal money, not in crypto.
- Identity. Regulated card issuers check your ID before they issue a card.
Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules.
Can I pay an Airbnb host in crypto directly?
No, and it is risky to try. Airbnb's payment help page says offline or cash payments break its Terms of Service. Its article on hosts who ask for payment outside Airbnb names wire or bank transfer requests, money orders and PDF invoices as signs of fraud.
A crypto transfer to a host is in the same group: it leaves Airbnb, so the safeguards for guests no longer apply. If a host asks for crypto, report the message to Airbnb.
Workaround 3: why book a hotel or aparthotel in crypto instead?
Because you pay the stay in crypto directly, with no residence rule and no gift card balance left over. StaySats sells hotel bookings, not private homes, paid in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, with USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20). If you want a kitchen, look for aparthotels or rooms with a kitchenette in the results.
What you get:
- Held, not charged. You top up from $25, and the exact total is held on your balance. We book the room on request and confirm the final total with the hotel. Your balance is charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued.
- Stablecoin refunds. If the hotel can't host you, you choose USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit.
- Live prices. You pay the price found live for your dates, in US dollars, for the whole stay. Taxes and fees are included when the hotel publishes them; the final total is confirmed with the hotel before you are charged. Local taxes paid at the hotel are confirmed with your booking.
- No ID upload at checkout. We ask for the lead guest's name and an email address. The hotel checks your ID at check-in, as local law requires.
Details: how it works and refunds. Monthly stays: long stays paid in USDT.
What are the limits of booking a hotel with StaySats?
We are honest about what we don't do:
- No private homes. We sell hotels. What you find depends on the city and dates.
- Some places are closed. We sell no hotel in Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, Syria, Crimea or the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. Hotels in Spain are not available yet. See where we can't sell hotels.
- Deposits at the hotel. Paying ahead with StaySats does not remove the hotel's incidental deposit at check-in. See check-in without a credit card.
- Bookings on request. We book each room after checkout and confirm the final total with the hotel. If it is higher, you accept it or the amount is released.
- Six coins only. No Monero, no Lightning, no card payments.
Which workaround fits my trip?
Use this short guide:
- You live in the U.S., the stay is under 28 nights, and you want one specific home: the gift card route.
- You want one specific home but live elsewhere, or stay a month: a crypto card, if you accept its fees and ID check.
- You can stay in a hotel or aparthotel and want to pay in crypto directly: StaySats, with the total held until the hotel confirms.
One thing never to do: pay a host in crypto outside Airbnb. Airbnb says offline payments break its Terms of Service, and you lose its protections.
Airbnb and crypto: questions
Will Airbnb accept crypto payments soon?
We found no announcement on an Airbnb page as of October 12, 2026. Its CEO said in January 2022 that crypto payments topped user requests, but no crypto method followed. We check this row every month in our acceptance index and change the status only when Airbnb publishes a new payment method.
Can I buy an Airbnb gift card with USDT?
Yes. Crypto gift card resellers sell Airbnb cards for USDT, USDC, BTC and other coins. The card then works like any Airbnb gift card. A U.S. card needs a U.S. resident with a U.S. payment method, and the reseller's terms exclude reservations of 28 nights or longer.
Can I use the gift card route if I live outside the US?
Not with a U.S. card: Airbnb's U.S. terms require U.S. residence and a payment method issued in the U.S. Some European countries have their own Airbnb gift card for their residents. The same reseller sells them for crypto, such as a Portugal card for accounts registered in Portugal.
Can I use an Airbnb gift card for a monthly stay?
Probably not with a U.S. card. The reseller's copy of the terms says gift cards can't be applied to reservations of 28 nights or longer. Airbnb's own U.S. terms page, updated July 29, 2025, does not repeat this limit. Check at checkout before you buy cards for a long stay.
How much does it cost to pay for Airbnb with crypto?
With the gift card route, the reseller added $0.26 to a $25 Airbnb USA card on October 12, 2026, plus the network fee. With a crypto card, the issuer's conversion fee applies. With StaySats, you pay the network fee of your top-up, and the final total is confirmed with the hotel before you are charged.
Can I split an Airbnb payment between a gift card and another method?
Yes. When the stay costs more than your gift credit, the gift credit pays first and you pay the rest with another payment method. Airbnb may limit you to 9 gift cards redeemed per day, per the reseller's copy of the terms.
Can I pay for an Airbnb Experience with crypto?
Indirectly, yes. Airbnb's U.S. gift card terms say gift cards may be applied to bookings of accommodations, experiences or services. A gift card bought with crypto can therefore pay an Experience, under the same residence rules. StaySats sells hotel bookings only.
Does Airbnb take PayPal or Apple Pay?
Yes, in most countries. Airbnb's help page lists PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay next to Visa, Mastercard, Amex and JCB. Residents of the USA and Canada can also use Klarna. None of these is a crypto method, but a crypto card added to Apple Pay or Google Pay may work.
Do I need to show ID to book on Airbnb?
Usually yes. Airbnb says guests verify their identity when they book a stay, and it may ask for a photo of a government ID and a selfie. At StaySats, we ask for the lead guest's name and an email address, with no ID upload; the hotel checks your ID at check-in.
Can an Airbnb host ask me for a crypto deposit?
No. Airbnb says most hosts are not allowed to charge security deposits, on or off the platform, and a crypto transfer is an off-platform payment. Some software-connected hosts may collect a deposit off Airbnb, but only when the listing says so before you book.
Is buying an Airbnb gift card with crypto taxable?
It can be. Spending crypto may count as a sale of the coins in your country. Check local rules, and keep the date, the amount and the value of each purchase.
Is StaySats an alternative to Airbnb?
For hotels, yes; for private homes, no. StaySats books hotel rooms worldwide, paid in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, with the total held until the hotel confirms. We don't list apartments rented by private hosts, so there is no host to pay outside the platform. Hotels in Spain are not available yet.
