Hotel cancellations and refunds when you paid in crypto

Who cancels decides what you get back. When the booking fails or the hotel lets you down, the money is yours to withdraw in stablecoins. When you cancel, the rate rules apply.

Quick answer

How does a crypto hotel booking refund work?

A crypto hotel booking refund at StaySats depends on who cancels. If the hotel can't host you, you get 100% of the stay back. You choose USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit. A booking that is not confirmed is released: it was only held, not charged. If you cancel, the rate rules apply.

The cancellation rules of your rate are confirmed with the hotel when it confirms your booking, and printed on your voucher. Until then, treat the rate as non-refundable.

What if we cannot confirm my booking?

You lose nothing. Bookings are made on request, and the total is only held until the hotel confirms. If we cannot confirm in time, the full amount goes back to your available balance at once, with no request to make. This covers a room that is no longer available, a hotel that did not confirm, and an error on our side.

That released amount is yours to use or to withdraw: book another hotel with it, or ask for a withdrawal in USDT or USDC.

What if the confirmed total is higher than the amount held?

You can say no. When we book the room, the hotel confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you see the new total and choose to accept it or decline it. If you decline, or do not answer, the full amount is released to your balance at once. It can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC.

What if the hotel can't host me after it confirmed?

You get 100% of the stay back, and you choose the form. This covers an overbooked hotel, a closure, or any cancellation by the hotel that you did not ask for.

  • USDT or USDC: sent within 7 days of your request, to an address you give. USDT goes on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), and USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20).
  • Balance credit: only if you choose it, ready for your next booking at once.

Credit is never imposed on you in this case.

What if travel to my destination is disrupted?

It depends on whether the hotel can still host you. If the hotel closes or can't host you, for example during a conflict or an evacuation, you get 100% of the stay back. You choose USDT or USDC within 7 days of your request, or balance credit.

If the hotel stays open but you cannot or do not want to travel, the rate rules apply, as for any cancellation you choose. We sell no flights, so a cancelled flight is a matter between you and the airline.

Before you book a destination with a travel disruption note, read the official travel advice. Examples are the US State Department and the UK Foreign Office. Then prefer a refundable rate.

What if I cancel a refundable rate?

The rate's own rules apply. Before the cancellation deadline confirmed with your booking, the hotel's penalty is often zero. After it, the hotel may keep part or all of the stay. The amount the hotel refunds, minus its penalty, goes back to your StaySats balance as credit, as soon as the funds come back to us.

That credit pays your next stays and never expires. Because you chose to cancel, it is not withdrawable in crypto.

What about non-refundable rates and no-shows?

A non-refundable rate refunds nothing if you cancel: that is the condition of its lower price. The cancellation rules are confirmed with the hotel when it confirms your booking. Until then, treat the rate as non-refundable. If you do not arrive, the hotel applies its no-show rule, which often keeps the whole stay.

If you will arrive late, tell the hotel. The phone number and your hotel confirmation number are on your booking.

How do I ask for a cancellation or a refund?

From the booking in your account: open it and ask for the cancellation there, before the deadline shown. You can also write to [email protected] with your booking reference.

  • Give the booking reference, never your account number.
  • For a withdrawal, choose USDT or USDC, the network, and paste an address you control on that network.
  • Check the address twice: a withdrawal sent to a wrong address cannot be reversed.

The address you give may be screened against sanctions lists before we send.

Can I reverse a crypto payment like a card chargeback?

No. A blockchain transfer cannot be pulled back by the sender or by a bank, so there is no chargeback on a crypto top-up. That is why the refund rules above are written down in full: they are the way money comes back to you.

How do other crypto travel sites refund a crypto payment?

The form of the refund matters more than the speed. Credit that works on one site only is not the same as stablecoins in your wallet. As of October 2026, per each seller's own help or payment page:

Refunds: FAQ

Do you refund in crypto or only in credit?

Both, depending on who cancels. When a booking fails, a price increase is declined, or the hotel can't host you, the money can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC. When you cancel a refundable rate yourself, the hotel's refund comes back as balance credit for your next stay.

How long does a refund take when the hotel cancels?

A withdrawal in USDT or USDC is sent within 7 days of your request. If you choose balance credit instead, it is on your balance at once. A booking that was never confirmed is released immediately, without any request.

Can I get my refund in Bitcoin?

No. Withdrawals are paid in USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), or USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20). This is also true if you topped up with BTC, ETH, SOL or LTC. Your balance is in US dollars, so the dollar amount is what comes back.

Can I cancel without a penalty?

On refundable rates, often yes, until the cancellation deadline confirmed with your booking. Until the hotel confirms, treat the rate as non-refundable. After that deadline, the hotel's penalty applies. Non-refundable rates refund nothing. The refund of a cancellation you choose comes back as balance credit.

Why is a cancellation I choose refunded as credit only?

It is our company rule. Credit from your own cancellation never expires and pays any later stay. Money that comes back because the booking failed or the hotel let you down is different: it is always withdrawable in USDT or USDC.

Can I withdraw my unused top-up?

No. Unused balance never expires, but only some amounts can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC. These are amounts released because a booking can't be confirmed or you declined a price increase, and amounts refunded because the hotel can't host you. Top up what you plan to spend; the minimum top-up is $25.

Do crypto travel sites refund in crypto?

Not always. As of October 12, 2026, per its help page, Travala refunds a crypto payment as Travel Credits, usable only on Travala. Its exceptions are Binance Pay, refunded in USDT, and Crypto.com Pay, refunded in the same crypto. At StaySats, money from a failed booking or from a hotel that can't host you is withdrawable in USDT or USDC. The table above gives each seller's rule. More options: sites like Travala.

Why can my withdrawal address be screened?

Because we may not send funds to addresses linked to sanctioned persons. Before a withdrawal, the address you give may be checked against public sanctions lists. The check is routine and needs nothing from you beyond the address.
