Quick answer
How does booking a hotel with crypto work on StaySats?
On StaySats you book a hotel with crypto in seven steps, from a $25 top-up to check-in. At checkout, the exact total of the stay is held, not charged. We then book the room with the hotel on request and confirm the final total. Your balance is charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued.

How do I book a hotel with crypto, step by step?
Top up and get your account number
Start a top-up of $25 or more. Your account number is created at that first top-up and opens your balance and your bookings; no email is needed to top up. Keep the number private.
Send the crypto on the right network
Pick a coin and network, then send the exact amount shown to the address on the payment page. Your balance is credited in US dollars after the network confirmations. Each coin and network has its own page under pay with crypto.
Search a city and your dates
Choose a destination, dates, rooms and guests. Prices are found live for your dates and show the total of the stay in US dollars.
Choose a room and a rate
Each rate shows the total of the stay, with taxes and fees when the hotel publishes them. The cancellation rules and any tax paid at the hotel are confirmed with your booking. Until then, treat the rate as non-refundable.
Enter the lead guest and check out
Give the lead guest's name, as on the ID they will show at check-in, and an email address. The exact total shown is held on your balance, not charged.
We book on request; the hotel confirms
Our team books the room with the hotel and confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept it or the full amount is released. Your balance is charged when the hotel confirmation number is issued.
Check in at the hotel
Show your ID or passport at the front desk, as local law requires. Many hotels also ask for a card or a cash deposit for extras. Your room itself is already paid.
What does on request mean?
It means our team books each room for you after you check out. The search finds prices live for your dates, but a price found is not yet a booking. We book the room with the hotel and confirm the final total before you are charged.
After checkout, a booking on request goes like this:
- The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.
- We book the room with the hotel in the lead guest's name, and confirm the final total, taxes included.
- If the confirmed total is higher than the amount held, you see it and choose. You accept the new total, or the full amount is released.
- When the hotel confirmation number is issued, your balance is charged and the booking is made.
- If we cannot confirm in time, the full amount is released to your balance.
The cancellation rules and any local tax paid at the hotel are confirmed with your booking. Until then, treat the rate as non-refundable. We quote no time for the confirmation, because we have not measured one.
What does "held, not charged" mean?
Your balance is held at checkout
The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.
We book the room for you
Bookings are made on request: we book the room with the hotel and confirm the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept the new total or the amount is released.
Charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued
Your balance is charged when the hotel confirmation number is issued. If we can't confirm the booking in time, the full amount is released to your balance.
If the total changes before the hotel confirms, you see the new total and choose: accept it, or have the amount released. Nothing extra is ever taken without your agreement.
Why hold the amount instead of charging it at checkout?
Because a booking is only real when the hotel confirms it. We book on request, so the room and the final total are confirmed with the hotel after checkout. Holding the amount means you never pay for a room that was not booked. If we cannot confirm the booking in time, the amount goes back to your available balance at once. There is nothing to claim.
While the amount is held, it is set aside for that booking and cannot pay another one. Your booking page shows each step as it happens, from the hold to the confirmation.
What happens if the confirmed total is higher?
You choose, and nothing extra is charged until you do. When we book the room, the hotel confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you see the new total. You then accept it, or have the full amount released.
We never take a higher amount without your agreement, and we never change the hotel or the room without asking you. Details of what you get back are on the refunds page.
What do we ask for, and what do we never ask for?
To top up, nothing personal: the first top-up creates your account number, with no email needed. To book, we ask the lead guest's name and an email address. The hotel registers the stay in that name. The email address is used for the voucher, changes and cancellation, and never published or sold. Travel data is deleted 30 days after the end of the stay. The booking history, without any identity document, is kept for 2 years.
We never ask for a passport scan, an ID upload or a selfie. We never ask for your account number, a passport scan or a selfie by email or chat. If someone asks in our name, it is not us. We accept no card, so we never ask for card details either. What we keep, and for how long, is in the privacy policy.
What happens at the hotel?
The hotel checks your ID at check-in, as local law requires. Japan is one example. Since April 1, 2005, foreign guests with no address in Japan must give their nationality and passport number. They must also show their passport for a copy.
You pay StaySats in crypto; we pay the hotel in local currency. So you do not pay the room at the desk, only a local tax collected on site, if any, and your extras. Paying ahead with StaySats does not remove the hotel's incidental deposit at check-in. Many hotels still ask for a card or a cash deposit for extras. Rules by country: hotel ID rules. Deposits by chain: check-in without a credit card.
Is a StaySats booking a package?
No. StaySats sells hotel bookings only. We sell no flights, no car hire and no tours, so each booking is a single travel service, not a package. EU package travel protection does not apply.
We act as your booking agent: your stay is governed by the hotel's policies and the rate rules confirmed with your booking. The full rules are in the terms.
How it works: FAQ
Do I need to sign up to book a hotel with crypto?
There is no sign-up form. Your account number is created at your first top-up, and it is your login for your balance and bookings. No email is needed to top up; each booking needs an email address, used for the voucher, changes and cancellation, and never published or sold. Keep the account number private: anyone who has it can open your bookings.
When is my balance actually charged?
When the hotel confirmation number is issued. At checkout the exact total is only held: it is set aside on your balance but still yours. A higher confirmed total is charged only if you accept it. If we cannot confirm the booking in time, the full amount is released to your available balance at once.
How long does the hotel confirmation take?
We quote no time. Each booking is made on request, so it depends on the hotel's answer, and we have not measured a median yet. Your booking page shows each step as it happens. If we cannot confirm in time, the full amount is released. A measured median will be dated in the changelog once it exists.
Can I book for someone else?
Yes. Enter the guest who will check in as the lead guest. Use the name exactly as on the ID they will show at the front desk. The hotel checks that ID at check-in. Some hotels also ask the guest for a card or cash deposit for extras.
What if my balance is too low for the stay?
Top up the difference before checkout, at least $25. The hold covers the exact total of the stay, so checkout needs the full amount on your available balance. Unused balance never expires and can pay your next booking.
What do I receive after the booking?
Your booking page shows the hotel confirmation number, our booking reference, the dates, the cancellation rules and any tax to pay at the hotel. Use the booking reference when you write to support; never send your account number.
Can I cancel after the hotel has confirmed?
Yes, under the rules of the rate you booked. Ask for the cancellation from the booking in your account. On a refundable rate, the amount the hotel refunds, minus its penalty, goes back to your balance. A non-refundable rate refunds nothing. Refunds.
Do you sell flights or packages?
No. StaySats sells hotel bookings only. Each booking is a single travel service, not a package, and EU package travel protection does not apply.
