Terms of Service

The rules for topping up a StaySats balance in crypto and booking hotels with it, in plain English.

Last updated: · 8 min read

Quick answer

What do the StaySats Terms of Service say, in short?

StaySats sells hotel bookings paid in crypto from a balance topped up from $25. At checkout the total of the stay is held; it is charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued. Bookings are made on request, and the confirmed rate rules apply to cancellations. Each booking is a single travel service, not a package.

1. Who are we, and what do these Terms cover?

These Terms are a contract between you and TravelGoat LLC, a limited liability company registered in Delaware, United States, which operates StaySats. "We" and "us" mean TravelGoat LLC. "You" means the holder of a StaySats account.

The Terms cover the website staysats.com, its client area, the balance, and the hotel bookings made there. By topping up or booking, you accept them. The refunds policy and the privacy policy form part of these Terms. You must be legally able to enter a contract where you live.

2. What is our role?

We are a booking agent acting on your behalf. We find live prices for your dates and book the room you choose, on request, in the lead guest's name. You pay StaySats in crypto; the hotel is paid in local currency.

We are not a hotel and not a tour operator. Your stay is governed by the hotel's own policies and by the rate rules confirmed with your booking. The hotel is responsible for the room and the services it provides.

3. Is a booking a package?

No. This is a single travel service, not a package. EU package travel protection does not apply.

StaySats sells hotel bookings only. We sell no flights and do not combine a hotel with any other travel service.

4. How do the account and the balance work?

Your account number is created at your first top-up. It is your login: keep it private, because anyone who has it can use your balance and see your bookings. No email is needed to top up. Each booking needs an email address, used for the voucher, changes and cancellation, and never published or sold. You are responsible for what is done with your account number.

  • Top-up: in crypto only, minimum $25, credited in US dollars after the network confirmations required for the coin.
  • Nature of the balance: a prepaid balance for bookings on StaySats. It is not a bank account, earns no interest and cannot be transferred to another person.
  • Expiry: unused balance never expires.
  • Refunds of the balance: some amounts can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC. These are amounts released because a booking can't be confirmed or you declined a price increase, and amounts refunded because the hotel can't host you. The rest of the balance is not refundable.

We never ask for your account number, a passport scan or a selfie by email or chat.

5. How do top-ups work?

You choose an amount and a coin. The payment page shows the address, the network and the exact amount, locked for 30 minutes. You must send that exact amount, in that coin, on that network.

The network fee is yours to pay, on top of the amount. A transfer on another network, in another coin or of a different amount may not be credited. Funds sent on a wrong network may be lost. Blockchain transfers cannot be reversed: there is no chargeback. Accepted coins and networks are listed on pay with crypto.

6. What do prices include?

Prices are shown in US dollars as the total of the stay. That total is the price found live for your dates, in US dollars, for the whole stay. Taxes and fees are included when the hotel publishes them; the final total is confirmed with the hotel before you are charged. Some local taxes must be collected by the hotel on site, such as a city tax or a tourism fee. They are confirmed with your booking and are paid at the hotel. Extras you use at the hotel are not included.

There is no booking fee or card surcharge on top of that total. The amount charged is the final total confirmed with the hotel, as set out in sections 7 and 8.

7. When is a booking made, and when is my balance charged?

Bookings are made on request. At checkout, the exact total of the stay is held on your balance; it is not charged. We then book the room for you with the hotel and confirm the final total.

The contract for the booking is formed when the hotel confirmation number is issued, and your balance is charged at that moment. If we cannot confirm the booking in time, the booking is not made and the full amount is released to your balance at once.

8. What if the confirmed total is higher than the amount held?

If the hotel confirms a total higher than the amount held, we show you the new total. You accept it, or the full amount is released to your balance. We never charge more than the amount held without your express agreement, and we never change the hotel or the room without asking you.

9. What guest data must I give?

The lead guest's name, exactly as on the ID that guest will show at check-in, and an email address. The email address is used for the voucher, changes and cancellation, and never published or sold. Travel data is deleted 30 days after the end of the stay. The booking history, without any identity document, is kept for 2 years. You confirm that the data is correct and that the guest agrees to the booking.

We pass the booking data to the hotel and to our booking partners, who need it to make the booking. The hotel may pass it to the authorities where local law requires a guest register. We do not check your identity. How we handle data is in the privacy policy.

10. What happens at check-in?

The hotel checks the guest's ID at check-in, as local law requires, and may ask for a card or a cash deposit for extras. Paying ahead with StaySats does not remove the hotel's incidental deposit at check-in. Hotel rules on deposits, check-in times, children and pets apply.

Passports, visas, health documents and entry rules are the traveller's responsibility. A hotel may refuse a guest who cannot show valid ID.

11. What if I change or cancel my booking?

Cancellations follow the rules of the rate you booked, confirmed with your booking and printed on your voucher. Until the hotel confirms, treat the rate as non-refundable. On a refundable rate, the amount the hotel refunds, minus its penalty, is credited to your balance. This happens as soon as the funds come back to us. A non-refundable rate and a no-show refund nothing, unless the hotel decides otherwise.

Ask for a cancellation from the booking in your account, or write to [email protected] with your booking reference. A credit from a cancellation you chose is balance credit, not a withdrawal.

12. What if the hotel cancels or can't host me?

If the hotel can't host you, for example because of overbooking or a closure, you get 100% of the stay back. You choose the form: USDT or USDC, sent within 7 days of your request, or balance credit. Credit is never imposed in this case.

The rights that the law gives you as a consumer are not reduced by these Terms.

13. How are withdrawals paid?

Withdrawable amounts are paid in USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), or USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20), to an address you give. You are responsible for the address: a transfer to a wrong address cannot be reversed.

Before we send, the address may be screened against sanctions lists. The amount owed is stated in US dollars.

14. Where can't we sell, and what about sanctions?

We sell no hotel in Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, Syria, Crimea, Sevastopol or the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. Hotels in Spain are not available until our registration with SES.HOSPEDAJES is done.

The lead guest's name is checked against sanctions lists before booking. If a name matches a list, we do not make the booking and we review the case; the outcome follows the law that applies. The current list is on where we can't sell hotels.

15. What uses are not allowed?

You may not use StaySats to:

  • resell bookings, or book for commercial resale;
  • make speculative or fictitious bookings, or book only to obtain a visa document and then cancel;
  • book for a person who has not agreed to it;
  • move funds that are not yours or that come from a crime;
  • get around sanctions or the rules of this page.

We may refuse or cancel a booking, or close an account, when we have good reason to believe these rules are broken. Funds are then handled as the law requires.

16. What are we responsible for?

We are responsible for the booking service. That means showing the price found live, making the booking on request, and confirming the final total and rate rules with the hotel. It also means holding and charging your balance as described, and paying refunds under the refunds policy. The hotel is responsible for the stay itself, under its own policies and the law that applies to it.

Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules. Nothing in these Terms limits a liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

17. How do I complain or contact you?

Write to [email protected], in English, with your booking reference. For a problem during the stay, speak to the hotel first, using the hotel confirmation number. Then tell us, and we will help you with the hotel and our booking partners.

18. What about your consumer rights, and can these Terms change?

These Terms do not take away the protection that the mandatory law of your country of residence gives you as a consumer.

We may update these Terms. The date at the top changes, and the change is listed in the changelog. A booking stays under the Terms in force on the day you made it.
