Quick answer

In which cities can I book a hotel with crypto?

StaySats has a hotel page for 66 cities, from London, Tokyo and Paris to Bangkok, Bali and New York. The search also covers other cities. Each page gives the local crypto rule, ID rules at check-in and BTC Map listings. You pay in crypto, and the total is held, not charged, until the hotel confirms.

Each city is listed with its country. Barcelona, Madrid and Palma (Spain) are listed but not available yet: see why. The search above also works for cities without a page.

What does each city page tell you?

Each page answers the questions travellers ask before paying a hotel in crypto, with a date and a source for every rule:

  • Can we sell it? "Available", or "Not available yet" with the reason in plain words.
  • The local rule on paying in crypto on the spot, with the date we checked it.
  • Places listed on BTC Map within 25 km of the centre, and how many of them are hotels.
  • ID at check-in: the legal rule where one exists (Japan, France, the United Kingdom, Türkiye…), and what to expect for a deposit.
  • Airports and local currency, from public data.
  • Taxes collected at the hotel: on the hand-written pages, the official city tax with its amount and its source.
  • How to book: bookings are made on request. The total is held on your balance, not charged, until the hotel confirmation number is issued.

We publish a median price per night for a city only once it is measured from our own searches. Until then, the search shows the live total for your dates.

Where is paying in crypto on the spot illegal?

In Indonesia, Türkiye and Vietnam, paying a shop or a hotel in crypto on the spot is not allowed. Thailand restricts it to a government pilot that converts crypto to baht. The United Arab Emirates allows only licensed dirham tokens. These rules are about paying a merchant directly. Booking online before you travel is different: you pay StaySats in crypto, and we pay the hotel in local currency.

In India, we have not verified the rule yet, and the city pages say so. The table below lists every country of our city pages where a rule applies or is still being checked.

A rule on paying a merchant on the spot is not the same as booking online before the trip. This table is information, not legal advice.

Why can't I book hotels in Spain yet?

Because our registration with Spain's guest register is not done. Royal Decree 933/2021 requires anyone who provides or intermediates accommodation in Spain to report guest and payment details to the Ministry of the Interior. The report goes through SES.HOSPEDAJES, within 24 hours of each booking. Until we are registered, hotels in Spain are not available.

The pages for Barcelona, Madrid and Palma stay online with that reason and are kept out of search indexes. Separately, we sell no hotel in Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, Syria, Crimea or the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, and there is no page for them. Details: where we can't sell hotels.

Do hotels accept crypto at the desk?

Rarely, even in the most visited cities. On October 12, 2026, BTC Map listed 10 places within 25 km of central Dubai, 2 of them hotels. London had 86 listed places and Tokyo 51, with no hotel in either city. Bangkok had 95, but Thai rules restrict paying merchants in crypto. A listing is not proof that a place accepts crypto today.

That is why StaySats works the other way round. You pay us in crypto before the trip, and the hotel receives a normal booking paid in local currency. Our acceptance index checks hotel groups and booking sites one by one, with the date and source of each status. Large booking sites rarely help either: Booking.com's payment methods include no crypto.

Can I book from Argentina or Nigeria?

Yes. Travellers in Argentina and Nigeria book the same way as anyone else. You pay from your crypto balance, and we pay the hotel in local currency. Two guides add local facts, with sources:

Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules.

How are the city pages kept up to date?

Every rule carries its own date. The BTC Map counts and the local rules were checked on October 12, 2026. The taxes on the hand-written pages come from official pages checked the same day.

We plan to recount BTC Map and review the local rules every quarter, and to update a page sooner when an official rule changes. Travel alerts, such as the one on Dubai, are reviewed every month. Pages generated from data stay out of search indexes until we have measured facts for them. Those facts are the number of hotels we can request and a median price per night. See the changelog for dated updates.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a hotel in a city that has no page here?

Yes, if our booking partners sell hotels there. Type the city in the search to see hotels with a live price for your dates, in US dollars. Each booking is then made on request. A city page only adds local facts; it does not limit where you can book. The exceptions are sanctioned places and, for now, Spain.

Paying the hotel in crypto on the spot is not allowed in Indonesia or Türkiye. Booking online before you travel is different. You pay StaySats in crypto, and we pay the hotel in local currency, so the hotel receives a normal booking. Pay extras at the hotel in local currency or by card. This is information, not legal advice.

Why do some city pages say "Not available yet"?

Because we cannot sell hotels there for now. Today this concerns Spain only: Spanish law requires booking intermediaries to report guest and payment details to the Ministry of the Interior within 24 hours. Our registration is not done yet. The page explains the reason and returns to normal when sales open.

Do you publish hotel prices for each city?

Not yet. We will publish a median price per night for a city only once it is measured from our own searches. It will carry the month and the date of the data. Until then, the search shows the price found live for your dates. We confirm the final total with the hotel before you are charged. We never show a guessed price.

What does the BTC Map count on a city page mean?

It is the number of places listed on BTC Map within 25 km of the city centre, added by its volunteer community. The page also gives the number of hotels among them and the date we counted. It shows local crypto use, not hotels we sell. A listing is not proof that a place accepts crypto today, so ask before you rely on it.

Which countries require a passport copy at hotel check-in?

Japan requires hotels to record the nationality and passport number of foreign guests with no address in Japan and to copy their passport. France asks foreign guests to sign a police form, and the United Kingdom asks foreign guests for their passport number. Each hand-written page gives the rule and its source. Hotel ID rules by country.

Do city pages show the taxes paid at the hotel?

Yes, on the hand-written pages, with the official amount and source. For example, Paris charges €8.45 per adult per night in a 4-star hotel in 2026. Lisbon charges €4 per guest per night for up to 7 nights. When the hotel collects such a tax at the desk, it is confirmed with your booking.

Can I pay the hotel in crypto when I arrive?

Not through us: StaySats is paid before the stay, from your crypto balance, and the hotel is paid by us. Direct acceptance of crypto by a hotel is rare and is tracked in our acceptance index. At the hotel, extras are paid in local currency or by card.
