Quick answer
Can I book a New York hotel with crypto?
Yes. StaySats lets you book a New York hotel with crypto. Top up from $25, then search your dates and book. Taxes and fees, such as a destination fee, are part of the hotel's price. The total is held, not charged, until the hotel confirmation number is issued. We pay the hotel in US dollars, so it never handles crypto.

The large US hotel groups, such as Marriott and Hilton, are tracked in our acceptance index with the date of each check.
With StaySats, the hotel does not need a crypto option. You pay us from your balance, and the hotel receives a normal prepaid booking in US dollars.
Where to stay in New York?
Most visitors stay in Manhattan, but Brooklyn and Queens are a short subway ride away.
- Midtown Manhattan: Times Square, the Broadway theatres and Grand Central; the largest choice of hotels.
- Lower Manhattan: the Financial District, the 9/11 Memorial and the ferries to the Statue of Liberty.
- SoHo, Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side: shops, restaurants and nightlife in low-rise streets.
- Upper West Side: residential, between Central Park and the Hudson, near the American Museum of Natural History.
- Brooklyn: Williamsburg and Downtown Brooklyn, across the East River from Manhattan.
- Long Island City (Queens): one or two subway stops from Midtown, and closer to LaGuardia and JFK.
What is added to the bill in New York?
Several taxes. A New York City hotel stay carries 8.875% sales tax. The city adds its hotel room occupancy tax of 5.875% plus a fixed charge of up to $2 per room per night. The state adds a unit fee of $1.50 per unit per night. For a single room of $40 or more a night, that is 14.75% plus $3.50 a night.
Many hotels also charge a destination or facility fee. Since May 12, 2025, the FTC rule on unfair or deceptive fees requires mandatory fees like these to be included in the advertised total price. Only government taxes and optional extras may be left out of it. On StaySats, taxes and fees are included in the price when the hotel publishes them. We confirm the final total with the hotel before you are charged.
Will the hotel ask for my passport or a deposit?
Expect a photo ID and a card at check-in. We found no legal guest-registration rule for tourists in New York, like Japan's passport copy or France's police form. The ID check and the deposit are each hotel's own policy. Foreign visitors usually show their passport.
Many hotels place a hold on a card for incidentals; some accept a debit card or a cash deposit. StaySats asks only for the lead guest's name and an email address. Without a credit card, read check-in without a credit card and message the hotel before you arrive.
Is paying in crypto legal in the United States?
No local ban found in our sources (checked October 12, 2026). Few New York hotels offer crypto at the desk. Booking ahead is the practical route: you pay StaySats in crypto, and we pay the hotel in dollars.
Tax still applies to you. For US tax purposes, the IRS treats digital assets as property, not currency, and lists paying for goods or services among the uses to report. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules.
Hotel or short-term rental in New York?
For a stay under 30 days, a hotel is the simpler choice. Since September 5, 2023, New York City's Local Law 18 has barred booking platforms from processing short-term rentals of under 30 days. The rule covers homes that are not registered with the city. A hotel is not affected by that registration rule.
For stays of 30 days or more, the registration rule does not apply. To pay a home rental with crypto, see does Airbnb accept crypto?.

Frequently asked questions
Can I book a hotel in New York without a credit card?
Yes: you prepay in crypto, we request the room, and the hotel is paid in US dollars. The desk may still place a hold for extras. From January 22, 2027, a New York City rule makes sellers show the hotel's standard hold and its usual release time before you pay. Check-in without a credit card.
What is a destination fee at a New York hotel?
A mandatory fee some hotels add for Wi-Fi or a gym. Since May 12, 2025, the FTC fee rule requires it in the total shown. New York City's Hotel Junk Fees rule says the same since February 21, 2026. On StaySats, the total includes mandatory fees when the hotel publishes them, and is confirmed before you are charged.
Which New York airport is closest to Manhattan?

Can I book a New York hotel with bitcoin?
Yes, through StaySats. Top up your balance with BTC (credited after 2 confirmations) or another accepted coin, then book. Can I rent an apartment in New York for a week instead?
Only if the home is registered with the city. Since September 5, 2023, Local Law 18 bars booking platforms from processing stays under 30 days in unregistered New York City homes. A hotel is outside that rule. For stays of 30 days or more, the registration rule does not apply.
Do New York hotels require a credit card at check-in?
Many ask for a card for incidentals, even on a prepaid room; some accept a debit card or a cash deposit. Policies vary by hotel. If you have no card, message the hotel before you arrive and ask what it accepts.
Is paying a hotel in crypto taxable in the United States?
It can be. The IRS treats digital assets as property, not currency, so spending them can create a gain or a loss to report. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check the rules where you are tax resident; StaySats does not give tax advice.
