Does Marriott accept crypto, debit cards or cash at check-in?

Marriott International takes cards, Bonvoy points and its own gift cards, not bitcoin or stablecoins. Here is the dated answer and what Marriott asks at the front desk. You will also see how to pay for a Marriott-brand stay in crypto when one appears in our live search.

Quick answer

Does Marriott accept crypto, debit cards or cash?

No crypto, as of October 12, 2026: Marriott's help center has no article on it. A debit card works for the check-in hold, and its gift-stay rules name a cash deposit. The hold is released at check-out; banks then take 3 to 7 business days. StaySats can prepay a Marriott-brand room in crypto, not the hold.

What does Marriott's help center say about crypto?

Nothing. On October 12, 2026, we searched Marriott's help center for "cryptocurrency" and "bitcoin": both searches returned no article. The payment articles name cards, Bonvoy points and Marriott gift cards only.

Marriott's gift card article states the rule plainly: a valid credit card is required at the time of booking to guarantee your reservation. Bitrefill's own Marriott listing also says that Marriott does not accept crypto.

What can you pay Marriott with instead?

Cards first, then points and gift cards:

  • Credit card to guarantee the booking, and a credit or debit card for the hold at check-in.
  • Marriott Bonvoy points, alone or as Cash + Points.
  • Marriott gift cards, on arrival or at departure, at participating brands such as JW Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Courtyard and Moxy.
  • Direct billing, which Marriott says you set up by contacting the hotel or resort directly.

For someone else's stay, Marriott tells the payer to ask the hotel for a credit card authorization form.

Can I buy a Marriott gift card with crypto?

Yes, on Bitrefill, for use in the United States. The Marriott US card comes in preset values from $50 to $2,000, and the listing says it works only in the United States. Bitrefill takes bitcoin, Lightning, USDT, USDC and other coins for it.

There are two catches. Marriott says a gift card cannot book or guarantee a reservation: it only pays the final bill at the hotel. And a valid credit card must still be provided at check-in for incidentals. Our gift cards vs hotel booking page compares both routes.

How much does Marriott hold on your credit card for incidentals?

The room, the taxes and a daily amount for extras. Marriott's help article on incidental holds says the hotel places a temporary hold on your credit or debit card when you check in. You pay your final bill, not the full hold.

Marriott releases the hold at check-out, but your bank decides when the money comes back. Most banks take 3 to 7 business days; cards from foreign banks can take up to 30 days. Marriott publishes no fixed amount: each hotel sets the daily figure. Paying ahead with StaySats does not remove the hotel's incidental deposit at check-in. Other groups compare on our check-in without a credit card table.

What ID does a Marriott hotel ask for?

A valid ID, plus a credit card or a cash deposit for extras. That is how Marriott describes its standard check-in requirements, in its rules for stays gifted with Bonvoy points.

The minimum check-in age is set by each hotel, depending on local law and hotel policy; some accept guests from 18. National law can add more: a Marriott hotel in Japan copies the passport of guests who live abroad. See hotel ID rules by country.

Does any Marriott-brand hotel take crypto?

Possibly one, through its owner, not through Marriott. The Kessler Collection lists the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District among its hotels. Kessler's own BitPay page invites guests at its hotels to ask the front desk at check-out to pay in crypto.

That page does not name each hotel, so ask the Savannah hotel before you rely on it. This is an owner's choice; Marriott's own booking pages still take no crypto.

How do I book a Marriott hotel with crypto through StaySats?

Search the city on StaySats and look at the live results. When a Marriott-brand hotel appears, you can check out with your crypto balance. Each search shows the prices found live at that moment, so we never promise a given hotel.

You pay the price found live for your dates, in US dollars, for the whole stay. Taxes and fees are included when the hotel publishes them; the final total is confirmed with the hotel before you are charged. After checkout, we book the room on request. Your balance is held, not charged, until the hotel confirmation number is issued, and we pay the hotel in local currency. Ask Marriott whether a stay booked through a third party earns Bonvoy points before you choose. See how it works.

Marriott and crypto: questions

Does Marriott accept bitcoin?

No. As of October 12, 2026, Marriott's help center returns no article for "bitcoin" or "cryptocurrency". It asks for a valid credit card to guarantee a booking. To pay for a hotel in bitcoin, book through a seller that converts it. StaySats takes BTC after 2 confirmations, then holds the total until the hotel confirms.

Does Marriott accept USDT?

No, on no network. Marriott lists no stablecoin. StaySats accepts USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), and USDC on Ethereum. The total of your stay is held on your balance and charged only when the hotel confirmation number is issued.

Can I pay a Marriott hotel in cash?

Sometimes, at the hotel. Marriott's rules for gifted award stays name a credit card or a cash deposit for incidentals at check-in. Online, Marriott still asks for a credit card to guarantee the booking. Ask the hotel directly whether it takes cash for the room and for the deposit.

Does Marriott take debit cards at check-in?

Yes, for the hold. Marriott's help center says the hotel places a temporary hold on your credit or debit card at check-in. With a debit card, that hold blocks real money; most banks release it 3 to 7 business days after check-out.

Can I use a crypto card at Marriott?

Yes, as a card. A crypto debit card converts your coins and pays like any Visa or Mastercard, so Marriott sees a card payment, not crypto. The hotel may place its hold on it like on any debit card. Check your card issuer's fees and limits first.

Can I book the Ritz-Carlton or W Hotels with crypto?

Only when they appear in a seller's live results. Marriott's own sites take no crypto for any brand. On StaySats, a Ritz-Carlton or W hotel can be booked in crypto when it appears in the live results for your dates. A Ritz-Carlton gift card is also sold for crypto on Bitrefill.

Will a Marriott hotel check my passport if I paid in crypto?

Yes, where the law or the hotel requires it. Marriott's standard check-in asks for valid identification, plus a credit card or a cash deposit for extras. StaySats asks for no ID upload and no selfie, but the hotel checks your ID at the desk, as local law requires.
