Where to stay in Paris?

Paris is compact: most visitors stay inside the 20 arrondissements, near a metro or RER station.

  • Le Marais (3rd and 4th): historic streets, museums and cafés, in the centre on metro line 1.
  • Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain-des-Prés (5th and 6th): the Left Bank, the Luxembourg Garden and the Sorbonne; RER B from Charles de Gaulle stops here.
  • Opéra and the Grands Boulevards (2nd and 9th): department stores and the Palais Garnier; the Roissybus to Charles de Gaulle leaves from Opéra.
  • Champs-Élysées (8th): the avenue and the Arc de Triomphe, on metro line 1 and RER A.
  • Montmartre (18th): the Sacré-Cœur hill, quieter, with steep streets.
  • Gare de Lyon and Bercy (12th): a rail hub on metro line 14, direct to Orly.

What is added to the bill in Paris?

The taxe de séjour, per adult and per night, collected by the hotel. In 2026, it is €2.60 in a 1-star hotel, €3.25 in a 2-star and €5.53 in a 3-star. It is €8.45 in a 4-star, €11.70 in a 5-star and €15.93 in a palace, all surcharges included.

Most of each amount is a regional surcharge of 200% of the base tax. It goes to Île-de-France Mobilités, the Paris region's transport authority, and has been collected since January 1, 2024. The tax must appear on the invoice separately from the room. On StaySats, when the hotel collects it at the desk, it is confirmed with your booking.

Will the hotel ask for my passport or a deposit?

Foreign guests: yes. French law requires hotels to have every foreign guest fill in and sign an individual police form on arrival (CESEDA, article R814-1). It lists name, date and place of birth, nationality, home address, phone, email and dates of stay. Children under 15 can be listed on an accompanying adult's form.

The hotel keeps the form for six months and gives it to the police or gendarmerie only on request. A deposit for extras is each hotel's policy. StaySats sends the hotel only the lead guest's name. See hotel ID rules by country.

No local ban found in our sources (checked October 12, 2026). Few Paris hotels offer crypto at the desk. Booking ahead is the practical route: you pay StaySats in crypto, and we pay the hotel in euros.

Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules, especially if the coins you spend have gained value since you bought them.

How do you get from the airports to central Paris?

From Charles de Gaulle, about 23 km from Notre-Dame in a straight line, RER B runs to Gare du Nord, Châtelet and the Latin Quarter. The Roissybus runs to Opéra. From Orly, about 14 km away, metro line 14 has run to central Paris since June 24, 2024. It stops at Gare de Lyon and Châtelet, among others.

A hotel near an RER B station or a line 14 station saves a change with luggage. Airport tickets cost more than a standard metro ticket, so buy the right one before you board.
