Do hotels in Mexico City accept crypto at the desk?

A few are listed, but check first. BTC Map lists 79 places within 25 km of our reference point in Mexico City, including 3 hotels (October 12, 2026). Only 4 of those places were verified since 2025, so many listings may be out of date. A listing is not proof that a place accepts crypto today.

Where to stay in Mexico City?

Mexico City is huge: stay in a central district near a Metro or Metrobús line to keep trips short.

  • Centro Histórico: the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor; the closest district to the airport.
  • Roma Norte and Condesa: tree-lined streets, cafés and parks, popular with remote workers.
  • Juárez and Paseo de la Reforma: business hotels along the main avenue, near the Angel of Independence; Metrobús Line 4 runs here from the airport.
  • Polanco: upscale shops and restaurants next to Chapultepec Park and its museums.
  • Coyoacán: quieter streets in the south, home of the Frida Kahlo Museum.
  • Santa Fe: an office district in the west, far from the historic centre.

What is added to the bill in Mexico City?

Mexico City's lodging tax: 3.5% of the price of the stay, under article 164 of the city's Fiscal Code. The rate is 5% when an intermediary that collects the payment, such as a home-rental platform, pays the tax. Mexican VAT (IVA) also applies to hotel stays.

On StaySats, taxes are part of the hotel's price when the hotel publishes them, and we confirm the final total before you are charged. When the hotel collects a tax itself, it is confirmed with your booking. Extras, parking and room service are billed by the hotel in pesos.

Will the hotel ask for my passport or a deposit?

Bring your passport: hotels ask for an ID at check-in, and as a foreign visitor your passport is the document to show. We found no city rule requiring hotels to copy passports, like Japan's; the check is the hotel's own policy.

Many hotels also ask for a card or a cash deposit for extras, even on a prepaid room. StaySats sends the hotel only the lead guest's name. Without a credit card, read check-in without a credit card and ask the hotel before you arrive.

No local ban found in our sources (checked October 12, 2026). Booking with StaySats does not depend on a hotel accepting crypto: you pay us in crypto, and we pay the hotel in pesos.

Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Check local rules before you spend coins that have gained value.

How do you get from the airport to your hotel?

Benito Juárez International (MEX) is about 7 km from the Zócalo in a straight line. Metro Line 5 stops at Terminal Aérea, a few steps from Terminal 1. Metrobús Line 4 serves both terminals and runs through the Historic Centre to Paseo de la Reforma.

The official city guide does not recommend the Metro for newly arrived visitors with heavy luggage. Felipe Ángeles International (NLU) is about 37 km north of the Zócalo, so allow more time from there.
